Me and the wife have had the same talk many of time, thinking Texas maybe, somewhere more free, less liberal, would love to not have almost half our pay go into taxes.

Sounds like a good time, there is a pretty good place near me ( corral canyon/ lake morena ). My xj project is more to replace the wife's DD. but I'd be happy to get the rhino or the 75 highboy out there with ya! Most of my friends just have quads or bikes so it would be cool to have somebody to wheel with!

Another option you might consider, as many of my west-coast friends are preparing to do: move somewhere else. Most are headed to AZ, FL or TX where Smog ***** are nowhere to be found.
Remember, this is California. We have a completely different fuel formulation compared to the rest of the country. CARB would never allow oil companies to sell a fuel that increased NOX emissions by 10 to 15 THOUSAND percent, LOL. I can't speak for other states but in California, use the cheap gas, save yourself some coin and don't sweat it. I've smogged past cars on Arco gas many times and never had a problem.

I run Arco almost exclusively (TX/OK feed stock - keep your money at home!) and haven't had any trouble.

Although I find it interesting that my 87 ('way back when I got it) ran cleaner without a functional EGR than with. But, can't get rid of it, because it's an "OEM emissions control device."

That doesn't work worth a damn.

Sometimes I think that these automotive engineers all have ex wives that were stolen by a mechanic, and their sole purpose in life is to seek revenge....

Completely off topic!

Ahhhh...CA, the land of insanity. Two friends of mine, both ASE-cert. mechanics and a Master Tech at a smog shop that I used for 20 years disagree with you.

If cheap ARCO fuels work for you, great - fill 'er up. I've experienced mechanical failures over and over in the past that were directly attributed to their "fuel", and was told by several shops to use something else. I'm sure I could find someone that would recommend Airtex fuel pumps too. And I constantly run into people who put cheap, junk O'Reily or Autozone parts in their Jeep, then cry like infants when it leaves them stranded out in the middle of nowhere.

USA "fuels" were responsible for my high NoX numbers, not ARCO, but in my book, they both suck. I recommend that others avoid both for obvious reasons.
