where is the ecu?

Just above your right foot (sitting in driver's seat) behind the kickpanel. It doesn't look like you submerged it enough to get that far up the dash though...

More than likely it is the alternator. If your jeep runs when the jumper cables are connected to your battery but cuts off when you disconnect them, the alternator isn't doing its job.
if you take your vom or multimeter and have around 12 volts but no less than 11 with the jeep off then your battery is probably not bad. with the jeep running you should have no less than 13 volts at the battery posts if the alternator is charging.

I am pretty dam sure that you are correct!!! i bet it is. Im gonna take it out tommorow and take it in
to a shop
Ok reading some more, I bet the battery is junk or the alternator is gone. You can take the battery to walmart and have them charge it for free. That takes about 40-60mins and you can take the alternatar to a parts store and have them test it too. If the battery is good then check the battery terminals. I am not joking, my friend's Jeep was running great one day and next it did the same thing as yours. I had to clean the wires and terminals. Then it was just good as new. If everything is good then check your wire plugs from the battery to the firewall and spray some wd40 or at the parts store, there is a spray that is great. Just ask the person at the counter. It's a pain to check everything but one of them may fix it. Best of luck.
because mine is a right hand drive some things are in different places my ecu is on the left hand inner fender next to the intake correct me if im wrong is your aultinator low down on the left or uphigh on the right like mine

I'm not sure what that box is that takes a bunch of inputs, but in my '01 (I know we have different FI systems) there's a box there with connectors on the bottom, and the actual computer is under the dash. ...and the relay box is on the right side above the wheel, and the worlds largest wiring harness runs between the two. Check in the relay box too, btw.
It is easy i changed my in a college parking lot. You have to take the power steering pump loose. Then take the belt mosty off. Then there is a bolt on top and on the bottom of the alternator. Fot the power steering pump there is 2 or 3 bolts on the back and then one on the front bottom and on top. Then just undo the tensioner bolt on the pumps side. The alternator will have a wire plug and a wire that is bolted to it. Take it out from the bottom its alot easier then the topside.
if you can get it running long enough you can take it to the auto part store and some can check the battery and alt. at the same time. sounds like its one of the two like others are saying
