Default Stuck ignition switch- Anyone run into this?

Ok, to start off- 2000xj 4x4 aw4 np231 tilt/cruise gray paint.......

When I insert the key and try to turn, it stays locked (like I inserted an incorrect key). This is something that has built up over time. It started out doing this once in about every 20-30 starts, but now it does it almost every time. I squirted LPS into the key slot thinking stuck pins, but that made no difference. I can get it to work if I slap the key towards the column really hard. Since this problem has gotten worse as time has gone on, I can see where my little "slap and tickle" will not work as well. Tried several different keys with the same result. Not looking forward to being stranded in the middle of nowhere not being able to start my ride.

Thoughts? Would a removal of the tumbler and a thorough cleaning take care if this?

Cool!

1. dealership item?

2. can it be rekeyed to the old keys so that everything is keyed alike/having to replace the door locks as well?

Have you tried a key that is less worn than the one you've been using?

How difficult is it to replace? My 2001 is just startin to have the same issue. It is our only vehicle and we don't want to be left stranded. It has only done it twice but we worry about how much time we have before its completely shot.
