thats an internal spring compressor. Its a PITA but it should work. You slip the long threaded screw with the two hooks inside the spring and hook the hooks up high on the coil then slip the fork in on top of the washer and start cranking away til the nut compresses the coil.
IMO using a strut compressor is easier cause it uses two piece that go on the outside of the coil.

yah, it probably depends on how much lift you have. that's a universal spring compressor and most vehicles dont have the huge bumpstop hanging down inside the spring like an XJ. Let us know how it works out. Good Luck!

The external spring compressors are really designed for springs that are over struts, and the internal spring compressors are for spring/shock type setups. I've never had a problem using an internal spring compressor, but I suppose the external would work fine for an XJ.

Provided there's no huge bump stop deal right in the middle of the spring seat where you're supposed to put the compressor. Even if you're somehow able to get the spring and internal compressor into the seat, how would you get the compressor back out once it was all in position? This is just a guess, but I don't think it can be done. Or.......if it can, not without great difficulty and knuckle skin.
