So I've been meaning to ask if anyone has heard of this. So I have a 2000 xj stock with like 127k miles. Truck runs shifts great, but when I'm stopped at a light it makes this noise almost like a helicopter flying overhead. If I put the truck in neutral it stops. Might ad it vibrates also, not terrible but there's a shake also.

X2 I think we both have the same problem. It sounds like there's something vibrating in the back when the diff is under load but stops in neutral and it oly happens when I'm stopped with the brakes

X2 I have the exact same problem with my 01 it's the weirdest sound that comes from the back, like it's vibrating while the drivetrain is under load and stopped with the brakes. But it doesn't vibrate in park or nuetral

Do you have a helper that can put it drive and sit on the brakes while you look for it? My guess is a loose exhaust piece somewhere. Maybe it is hitting the axle?

Yea I have a few friends I could convince I'm sure. I was thinking maybe the same thing loose exhaust. But it doesn't sound like metal on metal at all.

I can't speak for the original poster but I have a brand new cherry bomb on my jeep and everything is welded on so I know that mine has nothing to do with that, and why would being in drive or neutral effect the sound if it has something to do with the muffler?

Little update weather has been warm, so haven't been using the heat and its not nearly as bad. Still get the rumble and noise but it was worse with the heat running.
