Default fuse keeps blowing

This last weekend I changed the rear main seal and oil pan gasket on my 99. Everything was going good until I started it up that's when I noticed that my dome light didn't work, stereo didn't work, and none of my gauges work.
Checked all my fuses last night and found a 15amp under the hood that was blown, but when I put the new one in it blows right away.
Any ideas where I need to start looking for the short?
Thanks

A fuse that blows as soon as power is applied indicates a direct short to ground in the circuit protected by that fuse.

I think that the underhood light is on that circuit - see if it is shorted.

I had this same thing happen a few months ago and it was the underhood light. It was broken inside the housing and must have arced to continue blowing the fuse. I removed the light but havent replaced it yet. Everything (except the underhood light which barely worked anyway) is back to normal.

I just checked the under hood light and its not even hooked up. Everything was working fine Saturday when I pulled it into the garage. I unhooked the battery did the work hooked the battery back up and now nothing works.
I'm at a loss of where to even start looking now.

Well since you already know what fuse is blowing, see what is all controlled by that 15a fuse. Definitely a short somewhere like everyone is stating. Anything electrical is definitely a game that causes lots of frustration due to it being so tedious and basically forcing you to have to backtrack your steps not only twice, but multiple times.

Best of luck!

IIRC, the only things on that line are the radio, gauges, underhood lamp, interior lamps, and the transmission control module. You can make a "tester" by buying a turn signal clicker (sorry dont know the real name) add wires and plug it into the empty fuse slot. It'll start clicking when you make the connection. I believe there is a how to on this page somewhere.

Is it possible that you knocked one of the wires of the shift solenoid in the tranny pan? maybe you pinched it between the pan and the tranny when you did your reinstall?

Please ensure that it is not shorted anyway. This is a common problem.

to update, my fuse is back to blowing...constantly. Tonight or this weekend I'll check the underhood lamp for a short and report back.
