hey guys, when i bought my jeep used it came with the stock tires and wheels. So theyve just been sitting around, and i was wondering if it would be possible to get the stock wheels painted black? Should i get it done professionally, do it myself or just buy black rims? its not letting me upload any pictures of the rims but theyre just stock 1999 rims.

I know a couple guys that have painted their stock wheels. Used a rattlecan, then if you scratch them, fixing them is EZ. Duplicolor probably has a special "wheel" paint. lol
Yeah Do It Yourself easy job... they sell a satin black and a graphite that look good.
Ive considered taking my full size spare and testing colors on it. I was thinking bronze or graphite myself. Something to hide the brake dust lol instead of the stock silver.

I did my steel rims. I sand blasted the rust off them and primed and painted. I used semi-gloss anti-rust paint. Not too bad. May touch them up better. I did them one winter day for some reason. Had to use a heater to try to cure the paint. probably would have turned out a little better had I did it when it wasnt 20 F.

If your stock rims are alloy, like that tiny profile pic shows. (And you like the looks of them) You can lightly sand them, then buff them out, And a coat of clear. They will look like new again. I have the old lattice style (sliver ones) And that's what I was planning on doing. If there steel, I would get them blasted. Then spray can them a nice satin finish.

Painting them yourself is easy, it just takes a little time to get it right. I did my own and they look just like dyte2004's above. Take plenty of time with the prep- that's the key to getting a good job.
I cleaned mine well with mineral spirits and then pressure washed them with hot water, scrubbed them with detergent, pressure washed again. I wanted to make sure I had all the grease, dirt, brake dust, etc. off of them. I then sanded any rusty spots down to bare metal and scratched up the original paint well.
I laid them out in the driveway and sprayed them with 2 light coats of Rustoleum primer, sanding lightly between coats. After the primer was dry, I hit them lightly with a 3M scotch pad and sprayed them with 2 full coats of Rustoleum gloss black. They turned out fine. I cleaned up the original center caps and reinstalled them.
I don't think the total investment was more than $25-$30 and the wheels look like new.
