If its blue its not stock. If I am not mistaken XJ's tint is in the glass not on the glass mine is anyway. It is most likely after market and can be peeled off. One warning it will leave a very sticky film after peeling it off and will take some goo-off or alot of windex to get it of. You can use a razor blade on the side window but not on the back due to your defrost.

One easy test to tell if it's ON the glass or IN the glass.

Take a BFH and give it a good whack.

IF glass shatters but stays intact...it ON the glass
IF it shatters into a gazillion pieces all over the place and your BFH left a big hole...then its IN the glass.

J/K

Blueish is aftermarket, brownish is factory.

Don't want it to look so blue? Can of Rustoleum gloss BLACK...
Disregard that...just me foolin around again.

Howler can be abrasive at times but it seems you have some aftermarket tint that a good tint shop can replace with the tint of your choice and then you wont get any bubbles.

you can use a relly fine grade of steel wole and windex to get the sticky glue from after market tints off
if you put more tints on then use a glass cleaner without amonia in it ,thats what turns them blue

thanks to everyone. i guess when i phrased the question i should have said is the stock tint on or in the glass. but i think it is aftermarket. i dont know why someone would pay to have the rear three windows done in a light tint and nothing to the front sides. i think i will be trying to remove it. i have some goo gone that should take the stickyness off. but i am not looking foreward to doing the rear.

More than likely it was against the law to have front drive & pass. windows tinted where your ride came from. My state (MI) only allows a 4 inch strip of tinted film along the top of the front windows and 4 inch "eyebrow" strip across the top edge of my windshield. There are shops here that will tint the windows for me, but they told me straight up that it's illegal and that I can be ticketed and forced to remove the tint if I encounter a cop who's a real hard-*** about such things. So I just figured it's not worth it. Previous owner of your XJ probably had a similar situation.
