Stock manual Cherokee shift ****?
Hey guys. I just bought a 95 Cherokee 5 speed 4 door. I need to know what shift **** to buy. What do the OEM mounts look like? What does a stock **** look like? Some idiot decided to put a crappy aftermarket **** on it, and it's falling off so I want to put on a stock one. The problem is that I don't know what it looks like or how it mounts. I don't want a crappy universal **** from autozone. I want an OEM ****. Here's a picture of what my shifter looks like with no **** on it. Please post pictures of your stock **** and it's mounting points so that I can find the right one to order. Thank
you!
you!

This is it:
The metal part on top that you have there now needs to come off. Take some pliers or vice grips and unscrew it. That metal part screws on to the shift lever, and the shift *** is bonded to what you have left.
Once that's off, you will see the threads of the shift lever, this is where your new **** will screw on to. There is a round locking nut type thing (that you still have) located right below the ****. This has two flat surfaces that you can use a wrench on, and keep the **** tight. Loosen that, then thread the new **** on as far as it will go (but don't crank on it or you'll strip the plastic **** from the metal - what looks like what happened to yours).
At this point, the shift pattern may be close, but what that lock nut does is allow you to get the pattern lined up properly, and then you can tighten the bottom nut to lock the **** in place.
If your shift bezel is cracked too, here's the part:
I have owned two xj's and both had loose/stripped shift *****, and cracked shift bezels. (the shift boot bezel is what hold the rubber boot into the console).
Every xj I see in the junkyard has a stripped **** and cracked bezel (and tailgate failure, and tailgate trim failure)
