Just an FYI for anyone having the same problem.
I have a 97 Cherokee xj, oem, no upgrades or anything done to it. For some reason my radio/cd/cassette would not play through any speakers. After some forum searching I found it could possibly be the inifinity amplifier. Upon further investigation I found this(pictures below). Some pretty bad corrosion on the amplifier and bracket. It’s mounted under the drive side back seat.
So if you are getting power to the radio but no sound. Check to see if your ampflier is messed up. Again this only applies to stock radios and XJs with the stock infinity system.

Well for a 20 year old amp it lasted all these years compared to the brand new cars I get with apims and acms going bad back to back.
I give it credit! Stuff was built better back then.
Btw.. no holes causing water to enter that area?

I just slaved in the amp to make sure everything was working. Haven’t checked for holes yet. The floor is rusty around the mounting bracket but I don’t see anything obvious from underneath. Will have to investigate more later. But there most likely is some breach somewhere.

Better to just rewire your speakers and get an aftermarket stereo anyway. Better sound quality, more power, and overall better listening across the board.
Crazy how corroded that amp is and to think that it was working in some form as it was degrading!

Yeah I was thinking about that but I don’t want to throw too much money into this one. I just wanted to leave it a bit better than how I received it. I’m selling it when I leave Alaska. I’d like to get a 97 or 99 XJ in gold and 5 speed manual. I’ll be putting a lot of money into that one whenever/if I ever get it.
