Default Stock DS Length?

I'm not 100% sure how to measure it, but I got a DS with a non-running XJ I picked up and it seems to be much too long. From the center of one u joint to the other is 34.5", and weld to weld on it is 30". Did they give me a 2wd DS or am I just doing something wrong? With the slip yoke all the way in the Tcase it still lacks about 2" being able to fit in the pinion.

That is right.... Altho you have to remember there is a driveshaft length for the D35 and the C8.35 as the pinion's are different lengths. they range anywhere from 28" to 31"

So the length for a d35 is 34"? That's what mine measured from yoke to yoke...and it isn't even coming close to fitting.

It's an auto with a D35. Center of U joint to center of U joint is right at 34". The front DS is all nasty and brown while this rear one looks to be of very nice aluminum...With the slip yoke all the way in the T-case, it lacks about 2" being able to sit in the pinion.

I bought a Cherokee that someone had pulled the engine on to do a rear main seal and lost steam on the project. It just has a 2-2.5" BB. I'm putting it back together now and running into all kinds of problems, like usual. Let me go out and snag a pic...

I'm finding all sorts of booty fab under this thing. Do I stand a chance of selling it to a lifted guy that needs a longer one? I'm not sure how that works, I'm brand new to the jeep thing.

Thanks for all the help. I've been pondering it all day and it's nice to get a definite answer. I've been stressing way too much over this thing the past few days.
