Steering wheel exchange?
I just currently bought a 2001 xj for parts and was thinking of switching out the steering wheel on my 99 xj. Both steering wheels are different. My 99 xj does not have the cruise control on the steering wheel but the 01 xj does. Can this be done? If so how would this be done?

1997 - 2001 XJs had cruise on the steering wheel... nothing on the column...
Wheels are the same aside from the blanking bits. Clocksprings internally are different.

The steering wheels here (99 and 01) are interchangeable. Cruise is on the wheel for both, and while your at it, you may want to swap the airbag, clock spring, and cruise control servo and cable over. This way, you can add cruise control to your base model Cherokee. The vacuum lines and electrical connector are already there for you. It's about an hour or so job.

There certainly are. It is very easy as well.
Hope this helps. Be very careful with the airbag removal. Those things deploy at over 100MPH, so when you go to do this, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and let it sit for 30 minutes. This will allow the capacitors to drain all stored energy. Good luck.

The steering wheel controls may not work with the aftermarket cruise control. You may have to swap the factory cruise control components from your parts Jeep.
It's not a Cherokee, but I looked into installing the factory cruise control in my other car (Ford Escort ZX2). The deal breaker was wiring. Even though it didn't come with cruise control, the wiring could have been there. This was more common on cars that came with other options, like power windows/locks/mirrors. Was also more common in later builds. In that case, I would just have to collect the missing parts (cruise actuator, steering wheel with buttons, brake switch), plug them in and be good to go. Unfortunately, since my car was an early build and fairly stripped down, it wasn't pre-wired for cruise control. Like I said, it wasn't a Cherokee, but it's still worth wild to check and make sure the wiring is in place for cruise control before you take too much apart.
