Thumbs down Steering stabilizer?

I have a stock 2001 Cherokee. I just bought the 3" lift from Rough Country w/ rear leaf springs. (I needed new leaf springs anyway so I just decided to give her a boost at the same time!) I see this huge list of "recommended" parts that I should also buy. I'm relatively new to learning about suspensions. This Jeep does not go off road. So in terms of necessary parts for a smooth ride...I'm thinking just a steering stabilizer? Help!

Sweet. I got new leaf springs so with the upgrade they come with new u bolts. Just ordered the steering stabilizer. As far as bushings and such, are those things that can be picked up at a parts store? I am obviously not installing this kit myself but I have a Jeep guy doing it for me.

unless yours is bone dry there is really no need for a new stabilizer, in fact many people dont even run one

i havent even had one on my jeep in 4 years.

Yeah I bought this kit http://roughcountry.com/jeep_xj_3.html and upgraded to get new leaf springs. Comes with the Hydro 8000's...heard mixed reviews about them but this kit seemed to fit my budget the best...

I appreciated the input. In short, what is the difference between running one and not? Not new to the Jeep world but new to suspension and all of the components...

stabilizer is just a band aid. say you have a wobble up front and you dont want to really put in the work to find out whats wrong. people then install a stabilizer to cover over the issue. if everything is tight, has been aligned, and bushings are good you dont need a stabilizer.

The only time I even notice it's missing is when I'm going at a decent pace off road, and I hit something with one of my front tires. I can feel the feedback in the steering wheel more, but other than that, it's not missed. If you don't go off road, as you stated, then you should not notice it missing. HTH!!

I'm sure that's why every single solid axle steering assembly utilizes one...

Just b/c someone has been running without one doesn't mean you should. Retain or upgrade to a new unit.

umm...... try again.

worked at a ford dealer for many many years and the front Solid Axle when repairs where done on it left the dealership without one.

again work for another shop right now and rarely do they leave the shop with a new one unless the customer has specifically asked for one.............

I got a new one because it matched my other lift parts. Gotta have everything silver.Haha. And now its all covered up by a skid plate. Ohh well. But as stated you can do without a steering stabilizer. You said you dont wheel so that rules out extended brake lines. You may have to adjust your track bar, but this can be done by re drilling the hole.
