Default Steering Squeak

I have a 98 Sport, here's the problem: When its cold (or anytime after my last mudding session) when I turn the steering wheel I get a squeak. I have ruled out the column and found the noise is coming from somewhere above the pedals. What's happening and is there a way to fix it?

My '98 does this too. Would love to hear the solution.

Mine seems to go away pretty quickly after startup, like by the time I get down the driveway.

Mine squeaks too. I greased all the steering components, including the steering shaft and joints and it still squeaks like crazy. I have no clue how to fix this one, its a mystery lol.

Found a lot of dirt in the rubber boot thing at the end of the steering shaft. Seemed to help it a little bit

my steering box bolts sheared last week, I replaced them with new grade 8 bolts and the squeak went away.
