Default steering squeak

On my '99 xj, the steering column squeaks when turning left. Do I have to disassemble the column to grease it? Can't be as hard as the one in my '82 vette, that has small parts from hell to remove/attemp to reassmble. It is tilt/telescope wheel and a mother to do. i usually raise my fist to the sky and mutter, "As God is my witness, I will never do this again"

You can try a spary oil and see if you hit the right spot to stop it from squeaking .

Spay one spot at a time and when it stops squeaking you found the source. And you bought time to figure out which lube you want to use for the long therm fix and schedule the time to do it.

The column passes thru a rubber boot at the firewall, that is known to squeak. Some more than others. Spray the boot. My 97 does it, too. I use silicone spray. White lithium grease would work as well. Ive tried WD40, but it doest last.

Thanks, I'll give this a try first.

Seems like a fairly common minor issue.... mine will do it occasionally too..but ususally when it's colder temps outside so I have just ignored it...but might give that a try too.
