Default steering problems

okay so their is something seriously wrong with my steering. First when i turn right or left their is loud clicking noise doesnt seem to effect much but its annoying. second i was making a u turn to the left and all of a sudden i hear a loud clanking noise and with the wheel still turned to the left the tires seemed to go to the right all on their own any ideas what this is? It is basically unsafe to drive like this for any distance. I also had a problem one day when the wheel was strait at a stop light and when i went to turn it the steering wheel wouldnt move so i turned it really hard and it made that loud clunk noise again and then it moved. If anybody has any ideas on what this could be i would sure appreciate it.
