I have been having trouble for a while now finding help on fixing this play in my steering wheel. I can turn it that far before any actual turning of the wheels happens. It seems to be from just behind the steering wheel at the column. There is nothing happening under the hood when I do this and there doesn't seem to be anything happening from the fire wall up to the steering wheel. Before I started just pulling things part I figured I should check here first.
There is typically a rubber isolater inline with the steering shaft. They are known to wear out and cause a lot of play. If you have a welder, you can weld it together and get rid of the issue. I would at least look at yours before attempting to adjust the box.
First off, props to the OP for using an animated gif to show the problem.
Next, based on the description of what the OP is seeing, it does not seem to be steering gear related. If there is really no movement under the hood, then the play is probably in the top of the intermediate shaft, steering column, or the actual steering wheel connection.
Based on this statement though:
There is nothing happening under the hood when I do this and there doesn't seem to be anything happening from the fire wall up to the steering wheel. Before I started just pulling things part I figured I should check here first.
This would mean either that the steering wheel has play where it connects to the steering column. Or the statement needs to be double checked. Because the play is somewhere.
