Default steering knock

Think I found the right place for this. Hey guys, Love this site! I'm a first time poster, so I hope this is the right thread. I'm also a first time Jeep owner. In January I got an '89 Cherokee Laredo 4x4. 4.0 Liter Automatic trans. with about 90k miles on it. It's my daily driver and I just started hearing knocks when I turn the steering wheel. Especially in reverse. It's coming from the linkage but everything looks secure. The cotter pins are all still there and the nuts aren't loose. Is this a bushing problem, or what? I'm not a mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined, so any info would help.

Check/tighten the 4 bolts for the frame-side trackbar mount.

Is it almost like a clunk/bang? I had the same thing. it ended up.being my right axle u-joint.

Best thing you can do is climb under, spend 10 minutes playing with stuff trying to see if anything has play in it

Best if you can get someone to move the steering wheel back and forth while your looking

I think I found it after laying under it for about 10 minutes. I can twist the center link bar about a half inch in each direction and it's making the same exact noise. So I'm guessing the bushings might be shot.

That typically has a bit of rotation in it, but theyre probably.worn anyway. Cheap and easy DIY fix. Still triple check the axle u-joints. And check with someone turning the wheel. You'd be suprised with what you might find
