Default Steering Columns

I'm new to this forum and I have bought a 96' Jeep Cherokee Country Edition. I have a problem with the steering columns someone tried to steal it from the people i have bought it from and they poped out the ignition part of it and i have to start it with screw driver. I have found one on eBay for a grand Cherokee would that fit just as good?

Sorry, but no. That type of a part will not interchange with a Grand Cherokee. You will need to locate one for a Cherokee (Non Grand).

I have a complete column from a 94 in the FS forum if your interested...

This would eliminate the drivers airbag... dont think you'd have an issue but you might want to look into it.

A 94 and 96 column will not interchange. You can buy the ignition switch and cylinder from NAPA. It is a pretty easy repair once you take the covers off the column.

95 and 96 use a different column because of the airbag and different switches used. The column changed again in 97 -2001. 84-94 are the same column in that ten year span.

I've done a lot of research and have worked on a fleet of Cherokees spanning many different years. The 84-86 Cherokee uses the same column and steering wheel as a 84 Chevy S-10.
