Default steering colum

With my Jeep off I can turn the wheel and it knocks under the hood and can't find were its coming from any suggestions

Maybe a broken steering box bolt?

Got the same thing happening, haven't had a chance to check the bolts on the gearbox yet but that's where id start

your steering shaft has u-joints. you can remove the bolt holding it on the steering box, then another near the firewall, and if it's not seized, you can telescope it in to remove the steel shaft and check those tiny u-joints.

you can either replace those joints, or find a nice shaft at the junkyard to replace it.

replace it if the telescoping section is seized. you want this to slide in/out so you don't damage the steering box.

There is a rubber bushing(isolator) and if the shaft compresses too much it will disengage. It can be very dangerous so check it out. Have someone turn the wheel and take a look at it. I welded mine together so it doe'nt come apart.
