My steering box is totally shot. From 9 o'clock to about 3 o'clock is a total deadzone. No steering at all takes place there.
Put on a new Track Bar, new tie rod + drag link, so it's not any of that.
I was going to just buy an XJ box, but have read about the durrango box mod. Any idea on what year/make/model/engine durango box would direct bolt into my XJ? The XJ boxes have terrible reviews on the advance auto website. Is there another option besides this?

1999 Durango box should work. There's a few write ups. Here's one:

Your best bet is probably to pull one from a junkyard. Unlikely that a JY box from a Durango has seen much action on a stock Durango

I just don't see any options for the "non-plow" option on any auto parts website.
All the boxes look the same and have terrible reviews.
I'd also have no clue what a "99 non plow v8 Durango" would look like at a junkyard.
Any direct links to buy one?

Not sure what would be different about this setup anyhow? Typically a vehicle with a plow setup has the very apparent metal slabs on the front that attach to the frame for a plow...I've never seen a durango for a snow plow anyway. Certainly wouldn't be my first choice!

Any clue if it's the 5.2 or the 5.9 V8? I'd assume the 5.2 as it would make sense if you're plowing you want more power.
Don't really want to go to a junkyard as i don't really want to pull the thing myself.

5.2 according to this writeup

My only problem is i have an XJ box. If i buy a Durango box i can't get my $100 core charge back. That's not something that i want to just let someone keep.
I figure if i go to my local parts store and buy a durango box and hand them back my XJ box they won't be able to tell the difference, but i think if i buy it online it'll be a whole different story.
The rebuilder might rather have an XJ box to rebuild anyway. I just paid a 225 dollar core charge on a rebuilt XJ box at O'Reilly's. The rebuilder must really want to get those boxes with that kind of core charge.

That one looks like a good bet, but it doesn't state for 5.2 or 5.9. I haven't seen any comparsion or differences between the two models to be sure it really matters if it comes from a 5.2 or 5.9. Lifetime warranty, 30 days to exchange or return on the seller's dime if it doesn't work out.

Lifetime warranty provisions are not stated in the ad but,
30 days
Money back or item exchange (buyer's choice)
Buyer pays return shipping
+ other items have a 15% restock as well.
Let us know how it works out.

Good luck, anxious to see the install on that if you could take pics. If you haven't had your steering box bolts out yet, I suggest patience and PB blaster on the inside part of the box (not the outside bolts)
Also anxious to get those linkage parts...I need something to work on the jeep to ease my frustration with my Mazda...lol (off topic sry)
