starting without tranny?

starting without tranny?
is it possible to start a jeep without a tranny.....automatic. i put a battery in and all the guages and headlights work but when i turn the key to start it the dummy oil light stays on for as long as i hold the key forward.....any ideas?

Correct, unless you could get a bell housing (or at least a chunk of one with the mounting for the cps) and bolt that to the engine.
There may be a way to get really creative and make your own mounting, but it would have to be exactly in the same position as it would be if mounted to the transmission bell housing. The CPS is helping "time" the engine and without that and the flexplate the computer has no reference to where the pistons are.
Can I ask why you need to start the engine without the transmission?
Are you trying to run it on an engine stand or something?
