if you totally discharged the battery you will most likely have to put it on a charger for a couple of hours.

i am hoping that is all that it is. It started fine when jumped but i'm guessing i have to re charge the battery fully with a charger for it to start without being jumped?

The alternator on these cherokees arent the best, they cannot handle charging a dead battery and running all the vehicles electronics. So you will need to charge it.

Also depending on the age of the battery, a complete discharge will kill it standard batteries are not designed to be deep cycled so its hard on even a newer battery, like everyone said hook it up to a charger, if possible hook it it to a trickle charger overnight (2 amps)
