Starting Issues
Good morning! I've noticed an odd problem developing over the past month or so. It could be attributed to the weather cooling down and or something else going on.
I currently have a Coax and Mono amp running the stereo. Witht the stereo cranked, I've never observed dimming or flickering dashlights/headlights. My ARB Headlight Harness(stock wattage bulbs) and Foglights connect directly to the battery. No winch.
A month ago, I noticed that the Jeep really struggled to start as if they battery was drained. And that has been the story everyday since. One day in traffic last week my "Check Gauges" light popped on and the Battery Gauge was pegged all the way to one side. I turned off my headlights (I use them as day-time running lights since DC is a Mad Max Zoo for morning commuters), turned the Radio and A/C off. I had been sitting in stop and go traffic for more than an hour and a half. Traffic sped up and I noticed that the gauge moved back to the middle.
Today it really chugged to start and truly sounded like a drained battery. Once cruising I didn't have any dummy lights pop on. When I parked I turned the Jeep off and restarted. A bit better than normal.
Ideas? The battery is definitely old. I'm going to replace the Spark Plugs (regardless) this weekend since it made a huge improvement in my Fiance's XJ. I also have a Kelley's Works in Progress Mains Kit that I'll eventually install. I don't want to replace the alternator and or starter if its not needed.
