Default Starting issue - need to press gas pedal

I just picked up a 97 cherokee sport with 120k on her. It is flawless with the exception of an issue when I go to start it when cold.. It won't start sometimes unless I press the gas pedal. I always turn the key to ON and let the fuel pump prime before starting. ALSO the gas tank makes a gurgling noise after I shut it off.

I was wondering what this could be, or if this is a common problem.

Thanks!

It's probably the I.A.C. valve if you have to crack the throttle before it will start. Sounds like the valve is stuck or the motor for the valve stopped working. Should be an easy fix.
Hope it helps!

I really don't think it's an idle air control valve, I've had plenty of experiences with IACV issues, and this really doesn't seem like one. I was thinking it could be a clogged fuel filter (but new ones are like $100??), FPR, or maybe a weak fuel pump?

I was going to initially say fuel pump, then IAC. maybe if you turned it to on, then back off, then on again a few times. This should prime it well enough. If im not mistaken, this would prove that the fuel pump simply isnt doing its job to its full capacity.

Dumb question, but you have a fresh tank of gas in there and checked up on your electrical components? i am in the process of purchasing a 97 as well and im having grounding issues that are causing a similar issue (i think). Its that damn braided wire from the valve cover to the firewall

I have a fresh tank in there yes, and I haven't checked anything electrical. I am getting a gurgling noise from the gas tank when I shut the car down, someone tried telling me this was a sign my fuel pump was going. Would make sense since it'll start up okay if I prime it a few times.

Anyone know if a Walbro will work in Jeeps? I have a spare Walbro from my WRX that I could throw in it.
