Careful! You'll only see that path to ground at the instant the PCM wants to fire a plug. Your multi-meter won't catch it.
But I would not wait for it to misbehave. You can check that connector pretty easily.
This is exactly how it is shown in the diagrams. ASD relay provides a 12v feed and the PCM provides the ground to fire the coil.
So the ASD supplies voltage to the hot side of the ignition coil? And the PCM provides the ground? I got it to replicate today. Had no spark after if got pretty hot inside the engine compartment. I had no voltage on the hot side of the coil connector, not even to a known ground. I had continuity from the ground side to a known ground. I swapped the ASD relay with another and could feel it clicking when I plugged it in.
I'm literally about to go to sleep so I'm not going to explain the diagram now but here's the '95 page for the ASD circuit. You are correct that the output of the ASD powers the coil then thr PCM controls the ground. If you follow it back you'll see which fuses power it.
The new electrical part for my ignition switch is here, just haven't had time to install. I think it will solve the no start issue. Still investigating the no spark condition when the engine bay gets extremely hot. Leaning heavily towards something in the ASD circuit. I feel like I my be losing power to the coil of the relay.
It being a 96, I should be able to read check engine codes. I bought a cheap code reader off of Amazon. It throws an alarm saying it can't connect to vehicle when I try it. I know it works, or at least it connects to a Tahoe have. I cleared a light with it yesterday. Is that an indication to anything?
