Starter Does Nothing HELP
I have a 1995 Cherokee Sport. The Jeep starts when it is cold. After driving the Jeep around every once in a while the starter does absolutely nothing. First I thought it must be a bad starter but you can start it 30-40 times then sometimes nothing - not even a click. I have a new neutral safety switch, new battery, battery cables and terminals, good ground to the block. I swaped the starter relay while it was dead and it did nothing. I also replaced the ignition switch. The reason I did not replace the starter is that usually if it had a flat spot it should click. I have seen alot of people posting the same problem and receiving no answers on other sites. The jeep also had an after market alarm which I flawlessly removed and threw in the garbage. I just dont want to give the Jeep up I want to fix it. It has 190K miles and runs like a top. PLEASE HELP

i had the same problem, but mine was corrosion in the cables. but the solinoid on it could be getting stuck. try tapping it with a hammer, then starting it.

so there are clean grounds all the way around?no corossion anywhere? and you could try to start it, and slowely move the shifter through the gears. remember the parking brake!

It sound like you took all the logical steps to correct this problem.
Battery, cables, NSS, ignition switch, starter relay... what else could it be besides the starter/solenoid?
Honestly, if it's pissing you off this bad, it might just be worth it to just drop another $70 and install a new starter, or at least remove it and get it bench tested.
It really doesn't seem like it could be your CPS acting up.
Really wish i could do more to help!

I have to agree I'll put a starter in the morning. Sometime i look to deep at things and it's right in front of you. This happens all the time with race cars headers heat up the starter and it does nothing. Something in the starter must be expanding.

I have the same problem.... will start just fine for awhile then won't. I carry a pipe with me long enough that I can open the hood and still beat on the top of the starter. Works every time..I am afraid one day it won't though and then it will be time for a new starter. This is the first sign that the starter is on it's way out.

I took the starter out took it to a rebuilder. there is nothing wrong with the starter. Also with 35 years exp rebuilding starters he said. You should here a click if the solinoid is bad. if the starter is sticking you should see a draw lights dim a little mine a bright as can be with no dim at all if the starter was bad it would not start 20 times in a row. if the starter had a dead spot it would need a good bang to get it to start it just would not start again by doing nothing. he said don't waist my money. the bottom line is when it dones it again i have to get under the truck with a test light and see if the small wire is getting juice when the key is in the start position. This will tell me if the starter has a freaky ghost in it. but my gut says it is not getting the signal to start sometimes. all contacts going to the starter were cleaned when i removed it. and put back.
