starter
hey guys,
does anyone know where i can find a good rebuild starter for a good price? the shop i talked to said they would change it for 400. but i dont have that right now. since i know where it is and its only two bolts i figure i can save a few hundred and do it myself.
i have a 2000 XJ sport, straight 6.

Rockauto.com has them pretty cheap, $85 shipped for their cheapest option. Advance Auto Parts has them for $142 remanufactured and $165 new. I imagine Napa and Autozone are similar, but you can sometimes find coupon codes online to get them cheaper then just pick them up at the store.
Junkyards will have them too, but there's no warranty usually and you kind of have to take their word for the mileage/condition.
It's not too hard to change, there's one electrical connector and one nut holding the hot wire on. Then just 2 bolts holding it to the trans. Remember to disconnect the battery before trying to do this, those wires are still hot.

You should definitely try cleaning the starter out before replacing it! Could save you a good chunk of change, or at least enable you to keep your Jeep running till pay day.

Its really simple to replace, don't even need to jack the Jeep up or anything. 2 bolts securing the starter to the block, and another one for the electrical connector.
