Default Started Blowing Smoke on the Trail, help!

Fixed my rear main seal yesterday and there was not any oil dripping this morning when I left for the badlands. Made it halfway through the trail with absolutely no problem. All of a sudden we are blowing a lot of blue smoke out the tailpipe. We got out of the trail and drove back to camp and by the time we got back didn't see any smoke at all, we even let it idle for 10 minutes or so. Left Badlands and drove an hour home and when we got home we still didn't have any smoke. We can smell a little bit burning, but none coming out of the tailpipe. Doesn't make any sense to me, any ideas?

The Blue smoke is from oil getting in the cylinders and burning. Even a couple drops can do this. Make sure everything you worked on is tightened down. If a lot leaked in you may have to clean/replace the spark plugs to prevent a miss-fire. Seeing as how it burned itself out, you should be safe.

I don't see how replacing a rear main would get oil in the cylinders.
Was their a misfire when it happened?

there wasnt any misfire to speak of. the rear main was replaced by a jeep tech at my dealership. i brought it home and crawled under it asnd there are no leaks. after a couple hours of sitting i started it to see if there was any smoke and it seemed fine. there is a little bit of burnt oil smell but absolutely no smoke..

just weird it did that and then stopped. What exactly were you doing when it started? usually a bad valve seal or bad rings , hole in the piston , or ran upsidedown or blockage of the oil drain backs in the head would do that
