Default To start, or not to start..

Hello folks, im gonna start this with first saying thanks in advance for the help i know in gonna get, and telling you I have an 86 comanche, v6 2.8 (crap) motor, 5spd etc.. My issue is in its starting. Most of the tine wheb i turn my key and expect to hear it crank over, itll crank for a second and then just whir, like its disengaging. Someone told me its the solenoid, so i replaced it, no dice. Then i heard its the wires, so they got replaced with slightly bigger guage and weather proof connections and covered in dielectric grease... No dice. My next steps, logically, would be starter, then possibly look for a weakpoint in the ignition system inside the cab/steering column? I need some input on this, plz.

well lets you have the 2.8 carbed motor... my next test would be the connections to the starter make sure they are clean and wire brushed and if that doesn't work then I would have the starter tested... i assume you have plenty of fuel and just not having spark is your problem?

Assuming the starter is not loose, (check the mounting bolts) either you have worn or missing teeth on the flywheel, or the starter throwout is shot. I'd bet on the starter.

Idk about trans swaps, and the bolts arent loose. Ill get the starter tested and go from there.. I rly dont wanna be under this thing too long. Its been about 15-20 degrees here and frostbite isnt on my "to-do" list. Thanks for the help and guidence guys.

When you are under her pulling the starter. Pull the inspection plate and take a good look at you flex plate to make sure that it isn't missing any teeth.
