Default Standard Fenders.

Hey Yall,

I wanted to replace the faded fenders on my 1998 Cherokee sport but i cant find anything for that year.
Will Fenders for a 1996 Cherokee work or or they specific?

Thanks Much.

I know you could fit newer fenders like yours on a 96 so in theory it should work. The problem is they come down lower in the front so will not match up with your bumper and front clip. Not the cheapest route, but you can buy brand new replacement fenders for any year I think.

Just repaint them. And no 96 hard different flares. Or even better, take them off

Not shure lol total newb, its the part directly over the tire.
So it looks like its a better idea to paint them, where could I get replacement bolts?

If you wanted to put 96 Fenders on a 98, you could but for them to fit right you'd also have to swap out the entire HEADER PANEL / GRILLE / HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY

It's not just fender flare that are different!

I know because I went the other way ..... put a 98 front clip ( fenders/ header / grille ) on a 96.

If I had a 98 I wouldn't want a 96 .... the 96 fender flares are a PITA because the mounting hardware between the flare and fender is rarely useable after removal due to corrosion.

Flares are PLASTIC and thus a bit tricky painting ....

Make sure they are 110% clean ....

Paint them with ADHESION PROMOTER before putting any color over them.

just fit paper and tape in behind them to mask them off, then use some alcohol (rubbing, not bourbon), then use krylon paint to simply paint them up nice.

unless they're scratched or paint peeling off, then you want to sand them and repair them before you paint.

i wouldn't remove them, you will break bolts and it will just be a pain to get them to stay back on.

oh, and 96 are different looking flares, they will fit the contours, but they are hard edged and not as smooth and rounded like the newer ones.
