Ok….new update.
So I felt as though things were improving, but had a little drivability hiccup yesterday.
It was pretty hot, so decided to run the AC once I picked my son up. Had the AC on full blast since I am missing the vacuum tank in the front bumper and its only coming out the defrost at the moment.
Come to a traffic light and once it turns green, attempt to start driving off. The idle drops and is fighting to stay up, engine is barely staying on. The whole time I am giving gas (tapping quickly) to try and keep it from stalling.
After about 30 seconds or so of this, I let off the gas and the revs jump to like 2K. I put it in first and drive off.
So……to continue the mystery of my Jeep woes…….any idea what happened here? Also been meaning to ask…..would a missing vacuum tank cause any of these issues? I thought it was merely for the HVAC system?
Thanks.

Gonna order a new CPS (today hopefully). Had some issues yesterday while driving, so posted the above update.

I don't know because of course I am no expert...
I pulled all the vacuum lines that I could find and cleaned each of them.... that improved my low idling problem a bit...I used a weed eater wire and some cleaner.... some were pretty dirty and one was totally clogged. it was the EGR-valve one. I read more about that and found out that my EGR was stuck... I cleaned it and it is working better now.

I saw..... well I can;t tell i was under the impression that this tank was mainly for air... there was a thread on here a couple of days ago talking about it but I can;t find it anymore.... sorry 9not really helping I know lol)
Edit: I found it... https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/vacuum-canister-56570/
they don't say anything other than the fact that it will make the motor run bad lol

LOL....I actually posted in that thread.....must have not subscribed, so never saw the responses.
Guess i need to address this tank issue before going after sensors and stuff.

yeah i have a rennix engine and sensors are pretty easy to test with a multimeter....
I don;t know if you can test them the same way on the newer engines....

I think once the vac tank is replaced, if I still have issues, I'll know its CPS, TBS, and IAC. Also looking into replacing the water pump, t-stat, & housing.

did you look into the heat soak for the injectors ? I have read your first post and it says that it is acting up when it is hot... I read that heat soak can happen and make the fuel inctors not working (sorry just throwing stuff in the debate there....)

What exactly is "heat soak"? The issue has occured primarily after some driving, so at operating temps (hot), but I think its an issue that would be present at any temp.

I am not 100%sure.... I think it is the fuel injector that are getting hot from the engine heat and just shut off... I know it was actually a recall for some year model....
Look it up it might be worth a shot...

I can't really see this jeep having this many issues......
My first 96 XJ (was a 2 dr, 5 spd manual) had zero issues. Only items I replaced over the course of 180K miles was a clutch, a rad (rusted out over time), and a water pump. That's it.

Update (and a couple questions)......
Since I did not have a vac tank on hand (or was able to order one), I just capped the hose where it terminated at the tank. HVAC controls now working as they should.
As for the drivability issues, they are still here, so I am gonna order up the CPS and see what that does for me first. I wanted to take the T-body off last night and give it another proper cleaning with Deep Creep, but got home late and had no time. Hopefully I can attempt this tonight and see if it fixes things a little.
One question about idle......what is the normal idel level for the Jeeps? 600-700 RPM? Higher?
