Default Squealer

Hi everyone , Im getting this Annoying sound coming from the power steering pulley. I sprayed some WD-40 on the back side of the pulley, it seemed the noise went away for a bit but it came back. I was told try a product called "Prestone Belt Dressing" to make that Squeal noise go away, Any ideas or Suggestions to fix this? Greatly Appreciated, Btw heres a pic i stole from somebody in this forum for me to illustrate where the squeal is coming from.

you could try belt dressing but it could also be the bearing in the pump is going bad. which would mean time for a new pump.

Is the belt tension correct? I always use a kriket tool to check mine. HERE

Friends don't let friends use belt dressing. It sounds like a bearing.

My buddies' jeep "developed" bad bearings when the ham-fisted worthless excuse of a "mechanic" at the local shop overtightened his serpentine belt. If it's a belt, adjust it to the proper tightness. If it's a bearing, replace the component (or replace the bearing, if you're really mechanically inclined.)

Well i ended up using that Belt dressing and it did work, the squealer is gone. But... i wonder if that's just a temporary thing, so from where do i adjust the tension of the belt?

The power steering pump is the adjustment point. There is a long adjuster bolt under the pump. The top bolt is the swivel point.
Belt dressing is a bandaid for the problem. As stated above the belt must be at the correct tension and if a bearing is bad it needs to be replaced. Get the tension gauge and a new belt. Adjust it properly. If you still have a squeal then isolate it to the bearing which is bad and replace it.

So, what does the belt look like? Is it loose/tight, and especially, does it have cracks and checks on the underside? (You know, the grooved part?) Replacing them is a cinch.

After applying the Belt dressing the squeal went away for a while but it came back noisier than ever. Hopefully if it stops raining soon ill try to adjust the tension. Also i was told the squeal is a very common thing on a Jeep.

If you overtighten the belt, you can trash your accessories.

If the belt has squealed for a long time, you may not be able to adjust the squeal out. The belt may be toast. Just install a new one, and keep it in adjustment.

As far as the squeal being common on a jeep, that's the voice of ignorance speaking. Good, well-adjusted belts don't squeal. Stop listening to the idiots who tell you belt squeal is normal.
