Squeal/grinding sound when pressing the clutch
Can someone please help me save my back and tell me if I’m missing something. I have a 99 Cherokee 5spd with I believe the ax-15 trans. I had my father drive the Jeep around while I was deployed so it wasn’t sitting and when I got it back I was having a hard time getting it into gear. So immediately just thought it was the clutch. Threw a new clutch and pressure plate in, buttoned her up and still the same problem. It seems like it isn’t completely disengaging when I press the clutch in so it doesn’t want to go into gear so I put in a pre-bled clutch slave and master cylinder. Still didn’t do much for me or explain the sound. Goes into all gears just fine when the Jeep is off so I wouldn’t think anything is wrong with the trans. I did some more research and didn’t realize I should have replaced the pilot bearing so I pulled everything apart for that tiny little bearing. Did nothing for me. I thought the throw out bearing was fine but I’m almost certain it’s in the bell housing so I pulled it apart again and replaced that. When I first started it up the sound was gone. Shut it off to put back together some other things on the Jeep and went to test drive it and now it’s back. The sound is hard to describe to someone who’s not here but it is as soon as I touch the clutch pedal it is a squeal/ grind like metal on metal but not a grinding gear sound and is at around the same rpm of the motor. Is it possible any of the parts I have thrown at it could be bad? It is not a very quiet sound at all. It sounds like something is going to break into a bunch of pieces. It also still doesn’t want to go into gear like it’s not fully disengaging either. Also I’m doing this on gravel with no jacks and just a 2x4 to keep the motor from shifting when I slide the trans onto my chest so I’m getting a little frustrated. Not the easiest way to do it. Going to pull it back out this morning to take some pictures and maybe buy another t/o bearing and pilot bearing
can the fork arm be installed wrong? It looks like the new bearing is jacked up now. I think when I saw someone remove it when they were doing a clutch job, the two slits where the clips for the t/o bearing attach was facing the slave cylinder side and mine were facing the pivot. The bearing is pretty centered and I’m not sure if it would even make a difference because play seems to be the same if I swap it around. You’d think they would make it idiot proof and only be able to go one way or be labeled
