hey everyone, so when i start my jeep up and start driving it will sputter and have a nasty amount of power loss...this will happen when then motor is cold or hot..the sputtering only last about 10 seconds then returns to normal driving style, sometimes this will happen at an occasional intersection randomly too..my jeep had a tuneup less then 10k miles ago. any suggestions would be great.

That's really not much to go on. If you can predict a time when it does it, try watching the plug wires in the dark to maybe see spark arcing. I guess if it's post 90? you can read/have the codes read. Maybe try a fuel filter, regular maintenance anyway. If you post the year and have more about what it's doing that might help.

 

Year and engine size are always good things to put into a post or have in your profile..........

 

even though you had a tuneup 10k ago, i would check your spark plugs. ensure the gap is still in specs, sounds like you are runnin to big of a gap and it the motor can not perform under load

 

How are your o2 sensors? Also, get it on a code reader to see if there is anything stored in there that didn't trip the CEL.

 

Tune-up should include plugs, wires, cap, and rotor every 30,000 miles.

 

sorry its a 1997 4.0, motor has 98k on it. last tune up was cap rotor plugs and wires. the sputtering is usally the worst at first startup when i take off down the road. after that the sputtering will be very short (maby 5 seconds) randomly when taking off from stoplights. o2 sensors are good. and no cel

 

Have you ever cleaned your throttle body?

 

yes i motorvaced the whole motor at school

 

Does that include running a solution through the injectors along with a thorough TB cleaning?
