spring in lower rad hose
After pulling the entire cooling system out of my jeep, I noticed that I do not have the factory spring in the hose that I removed from the jeep. Went to pull it out to swap it to the new hose, no spring. My father in law must have taken it out before my wife got it years ago. I can not seem to find a replacement spring anywhere and have been told numerous times that the new hoses don't need them. For some reason, I just don't believe them. anyone know where to buy a new one? is one of those universal hoses with the spring in it ok to use? or should i just head to the junkyard and hope to find one? Or am I just being paranoid and the new hoses are fine if you replace them every other year or so? Thanks for your time guys.

I've never used/had one with the spring, and I live in Arizona. My Jeeps all cool well with no issues.

What he said. There was a long thread on this subject and it was (finally) determined that the coil spring was in the there to aid in the assembly process in the factory. No positive impact on cooling except maybe adding a bit of rust to the coolant as it ages which would be negative at best.

Oh no, the "the spring must be in the hose" myth again!!!!LOL Regarding myths, don't forget to jack the front of the vehicle up high and remove the temp sending unit in the back of the head when filling with coolant so the cooling system will burp. LOL....I'm just joking, but jacking the front up is a myth perpetuated on the Interweb.
