Default Speedometer and tack drop...

So this is my first forum entry, and I've been looking for some help from people that know a little more about this stuff than I do. Every once in a while I'll be driving down the road and my Speedometer and tack will drop to zero and the airbag light will come on. Does anyone out there know what this might be? The CEL does not come on either. Also, my jeep is a 98 4.0

The exact same thing is happening to my 98 Cherokee too. Hopefully someone will post some answers soon.

Seems to be a pretty common occurrence, Im not sure what the problem is though, since mine is 9 years older than yours and I dont really pay attention to the 97+ specific issues.

Im sure someone can post up and help you.

pull the gauge cluster, scuff up the contact surfaces, coat with some di-electrical grease and re-assemble.
