speedometer stopped working...

Default speedometer stopped working...

Any ideas? I was goin about 50 and the needle started dancing around like crazy...now doesn't move at all... its a 92 laredo. I don't know much about speedometers. I know newer cars have electronically controlled speedos....Bhutan not sure about a 92... any help would be appreciated

Check the plug at the speedo gear housing on transfercase and the "fork" and bolt holding the speedo gear housing.

Sounds like it was acting up before it came unplugged or rotated from making contact... or possibly ate the speedo gear itself.

about a year ago it stopped workin for like 2 minutes while i was wheelin. where on the tcase is the gear housing?

thanks. ill throw some new fluid and some lucas trans fix stuff in the tcase when i do that also...its leaking and i probably have no trans fluid in the tcase now....

I fixed it today. It was my speed sender. It was on the drivers side of my 242 t case. All I did was take it off....spray a bunch of brake cleaner in it. Spin it around a bunch...then sprayed some pb blaster in it. Apparently the speed sender was just dirty. And if it cuts out again its only a 30$ part.
