Default Speedometer/odometer inoperative

Driving out the other day and my engine light came on. I turn around and went back home. I was able to get to the auto store and they check for codes and determined that the speed sensor was the culprit. They had to order one and today Installed it. Had to disconnect the battery momentarily and the engine light went out. Test drove it, not far, and I have no speedometer or odometer. Any advice? The Jeep is a 2000 6 cyl. 4 liter and 3 speed auto transmission 4X4.

I just found the problem. Apparently a stinking mouse or some critter got on top of the transmission where the wire bundle is and chewed through the insulation and one wire. I will be splicing it and re-warping it. Thanks for your reply.
