Default question on wiring

I swapped the engine/trans/transfer case into my 2000 XJ out of a 1998, my '00 had a 231 in it, and the '98 had the 242 , my wiring harness for the trans case had a connector in into hook up the sensor above the yoke, the 242 has a different sensor . the wires are blk/red blk/white blk, can I just cut the connector off, and spice the wires to the connector for the 242. wires are the same color.

Because the 242 has a different sensor than the 231.
