Have a 2000 xj with 250,000 miles that's been acting up lately. All of a sudden the jeep was extremely hard to start and ran poorly intermittently. Upon replacing the cam position sensor with one from jeep the starting issue was solved, but now there's a new problem.

The speedometer needle jumps all over the place and the motor seems to miss intermittently. I'm assuming it's an electrical issue but i haven't been able to find anything. Any help is appreciated

 

start by checking and cleaning your grounds.

 

Do you have a Malfunction Indicator Lamp on? Any DTC codes stored or pending?

The miss may be a need for new spark plugs.


Concerning the Speedometer: Check the wiring at the Vehicle Speed Sensor at or near its connector. Check the connector for corrosion (inside).

 

I'm not sure about codes as its not driveable enough to get to autozone and have them checked. I also forgot to include that the speedo jumping and misfires seem to correspond for the most part and sometimes the needle will even go way past 100 mph if that changes anything
