I came to a stop sign and rolled off the brake, when I started to push down on the throttle it seemed to bog and the speedo jumped to about 100 then came back down and was fine after that. When I started to park it surged a couple of times to about 60 but didnt feel the Jeep bog at all. Has any one ever experiance something like this? Any info will be greatly appreciated. By the way this happened to my 01 XJ.

K. Now sweat it. Keep checkin the forum for great advice! I would have that alt checked again. Could be wiring between batt and alt? Def check the wiring, grounding issues mentioned. Keep us posted.

Any one know if the alternator on the 01 XJ has an external regulator? Cause I found a 136amp alternator for a V8 GC at my local Oreilly that they actually have in stock, but it has an external regulator.

The regulator is built into the PCM, so yeah, it is an external regulated alternator. Your funky alternator is also causing the speedo problem you're having, low voltage will cause all kinds of weirdness to happen. That 136 GC alternator may require some slight modification in order to mount up to your XJ.

In my opinion it's not worth the trouble for a 12amp increase, but the wiring is the same between the XJ and ZJ V8 alternators from 93-2001.
