So I have tried searching and searching but I can't seem to find an answer. I bought a 91 XJ and the speedo didn't work so I figured it just needed a new sensor or cable but upon pulling my cluster out I found that it is electronic not mechanical. Is there anyway to make this speedo work or am I going to have to get a new one? Everything else works on the cluster except for the oil pressure and speedo but I think the sending unit for the oil pressure is bad because it leaks a little and I gave it a pretty good knock trying to get the oil filter off.

I'd say just get a new cluster.

I'd look at the speed sensor at the output of the transfer case. White plug. That's what drives your speedo and it's possibly disconnected or failed.

Well if the Oil sensor is leaking, replaceit they are cheap.. I would also check the sesor at the TC, thay are also not real expensive. Just becareful to get the correct one. There are like 3 or 4 versions available.

Definately replace or plug the port at the oil sensor. When they fail your oil will pump straight out.

Might just need to clean the contacts on the cluster. With it running (or driving, for the speedo), try slapping the top of the dash. If they work after that, it's the connection. If not, the speed sensor is easy to replace and is @$25. You might also make sure that all of your grounds are clean.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have replaced the sensor with a junk yard one because it was like $2 so I guess I will just go and get a brand new one and give it a go. Im replacing the sending unit today as well. I just got paid so I have a little money to play with.
