I have a '91 XJ that the Speedo isn't working in.
I've replaced the speed sensor on the t-case and the gage cluster both with ones that came off a Jeep they worked on.
Any idea's?

If it's an 89 it should be a mechanical speedo. When you replaced the gear in the t-case there are several positions you can put it in depending on tooth count. You may not have it making contact. You have to spin the housing till it makes contact and bolt it in.

Yup. there are numerical values on the part of the sensor sticking out of the tailshaft housing. These are the clocking positions for the different tooth counts, as the sensors are used on many differently geared applications. if you have 42 teeth and you see 40-46 printed on the sensor, clock the housing so the tab that holds the sensor into the tailshaft housing is pointing to the area where the numbers are located, as is viewed straight on from the rear of the vehicle.

I'll check the sensor again but. Both are same tooth count.
And Yes this is a '91 it's replacing the '89 that is in my sig.
IS the gear and shaft in the sensor suppose to be held in by anything? Both mine just fall out when you pull the sensor.

i had an 89, and i replaced the cluster and the tcase sensor as well, it ended up being that the cable was broke about 10inches down from the cluster. when its off, you can just pull the top part out and you will know if that is it or not.
