I have a 91 briarwood 4.0. i know the rear is a chrysler 8.25 but im not sure if it 27 or 29 and if it c clips or not. both my seals and outter bearings are bad and i wanna be sure i get the right parts the first time. any info would be great thanks. and maybe someone knows what the gear ratio is too...

 

If it ia stock to your jeep it will be C-clip and 27 spline and should have 3.55 gears.

 

yea its stock. pretty sure it has stock tow package too cause it has trans cooler.

 

i not shure but the 8.25 is 1994 and up and in 1991 the towing package replace the d35 to d44

 

Nah, the 8.25 was '91 up. The D44 was only until '90 in the Tow Package, after that it was 8.25. Both my '93 and '94 have 8.25 axles. In '97 they went to the 29-spline.

Also, if it has a tow package, it's more than likely 3.73 gears. If you wanted to know for sure, grab your vin number and call a dealership, they should have no problem telling you.

 

I think it was halfway through 96 actually...but hey, who's counting?
