speaker wires
i bought new speakers. as I am trying to install the rear hatch ones (2000 cherokee without infinity sound system) the cables given to me by pioneer do not connect to the cherokee ones. the cherokee has a plug and the speakers are just wires. where can i find an adapter for this?
The best way to hook up the correct polarity on your new spekers is to "pop" the old speakers. This only works if at least one of your old speakers was working when it was removed. Take a 9 volt battery and hook wires to the terminals. Then take the + side of the battery and hook it to the one side of the factory speaker. Then take and hold the - side of the battery to the other side of the speaker. Watch the speaker and see if it moves in or out. If the speaker moves out that means you have found the correct polarity. If it moves in just reverse the wires. (you want it to move out) Then just look at the terminal that you have the + side of the battery hooked too, and that will be your + terminal. Then simply look at the factory plug, and see which wire goes to that + terminal. If you just hook them up without doing this test your speakers will not have as much bass, and will sound bad.
Most older model Dodge and Jeep radios ground through the factory antenna. I always just run a new ground down to the metal behind the drivers side kickpanel if you can't find a good ground point in the dash. Hope this information helps!
