speaker upgrade ideas
Om so my jeel has a kickin sound system already they actually did a great job with the stock system but i want more. me personally I dont listen to music while driving I would much rather listen to the engine .(if u listen the jeep speaks to you haha) but I want better sound and I CANNOT stand it when oeie put sub box crap Nd speakers. In the back especially when its a backyard hack job. My idea is ... It looks like a pair of 8s in the rear. And 6's in the front panels (I have a 98 Cherokee) I was thinking withe some minor surgical incisions sone 12s could squeeze in the rear. And with the same delicacy 8'or bigger in the front . I dont want "thump" or bass just good clear loud sound. When I decide to blast zac brown band. Anny thoughts? Or other. Less invasive sound ideas? I won't do a whole speaker do over or kit the space in the rear is reserved for cargo (and or possible new shock mounts) its a wheeler but sometimes awesome sound is needed

6x9's in the hatch, 6 1/2 in the sound bar, factory up front with a 12 inch infinity directly behind the drive seat with the seats folded down. The sub sounds better all the way in the back facing forward. You might be happy with just the 6x9 upgrades as they have a little more bass over the 6 1/2's I had to cut the hatch out to get them to fit. Always measure twice cut once. Good luck.

When I upgrade my factory systems I like to maximize sound and minimize the space used. What I like to do is buy a decent head unit and hook it to a compact 4 channel amplifier. I use the factory speaker mounts and get the largest size speakers possible without hacking up the panels. I then buy a compact powered sub woofer to fill in the base. It's almost necessary when you're in that 5-6 inch speaker range. The infinity powered subs mount cleanly and don't intrude too badly. The sound is usually pretty damn good for the money. I can't see putting sub boxes in a little XJ. no room for gear, dogs or ex wives.....

Holy grammar batman. I have an alpine headunit and alpine speakers with the "power pack" that alpine makes. It's a speaker amp that plugs in behind the headunit. No rewiring required, and those speakers kick ***.

I considered that alpine unit. It looks like a nice way to gain amps and save space and wiring.

It definitely is. I'm very happy I bought it, although I'm actually ditching it to wire up a bigger speaker amp. I'll finally be pushing my speakers at 100watts, which is their rms rating

Strange, I tried putting a set of 5.25" infinity speakers in the front doors of my 97 and they were too small. I'm looking for some 6.5s now. The complication is that the factory tweeters are tiny and don't have a proper crossover - just a capacitor. I can't see a decent space to put crossovers in the doors either.
I have the infinity package, with blown speakers in the front. The rear sound bar has 5.25 two ways.

Get ready for an epic tear out of interior trim. One lesson I learned the hard way is to route your power wire on the opposite side of the vehicle, away from your amp output wires. Unless you like listening to charging system whine through amplified speakers.....

I have a Clarion pop out touch screen headunit, Kicker 6.5s all around(150rms, 300peak) that are way under powered at the moment, and they're still loud as ****. They hit okay, enough to make mt mirrors useless sometimes. Though Im not happy with it yet, plans are a 4 channel amp to power the speakers, then a RF 10' T0 and a Kenwood 1200w RMS amp to power it. It is only one 10 but these T series Rockfords will put double or even triple 12 or 15 to shame, all while keeping clean bass

Just make sure your wires don't get caught in the door brace. Happened to me and the entire system would die when the door was opened all the way due to it grounding out.

I've had my interior in and out a few times now haha. And it won't be too bad. I already have an amp wired for my sub so I know the deal. Should be fun wiring the doors and hatch though
