Yes, a full size will fit. I have a 30x9.50-15 on mine and it fits perfect. Some say that they have a 31x10.50-15 with no problem.

I've got a 235/75R-15 on mine(29+"). From the looks of mine I'd say a 31" tire would work.

31" x 10.5 in stock location.
The donut spares are great for burnouts. Install 2 on the rear and have at it.

The 31" almost goes to the roof and from the tailgate to the seat, I guess that is the first photo I have saw of one stuffed in there, thanks for posting.

That said I could afford to do mine that way and loose all that cargo space back there. I know some will say I have too much junk back there to carry around all the time but.......I believe in the mantra "I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it".

The guys I wheel with at times are for the most part much younger than I, but who isn't anymore. I enjoy going with them at times but it seems that they take very little with them in case of problems. Anyway I carry a lot of items and a quite extensive First Aid Kit (Trauma Level) just in case.

I tried carrying my spare on a roof rack a 31' then a 33.12:50 took the 33 down once on the trail and the flat back up, then bought a swingout tire carrier bumper. Heavy, backbreaking, muddy, snow and ice packed too much for an old man and I was filthily by the time I got it back up on the rack.

Only thing about inside is if you have a flat and your cargo area is loaded down, having to unload a lot to get to the spare then have to put the flat in there, no matter what's on it. Then having to load everything back in with the muddy/ ice/ snow , would be my only problem.

I don't carry the spare in the cargo area either. Just wanted to see if it fit, should it be necessary. What I do carry everywhere in the false floor are tools, recovery items, and a mini kitchen with the shower on roof rack.

A few guys on here said that they do carry a 31" spare. But they had to remove the metal bracket on the bottom that the tire sits on to get it to fit right.

Damn that a nice job and well setup, you get a lot more storage that's easier to access things on the bottom than I do for sure. My roof rack (like yours) is reserved for light weight items mostly camping for a day trip chairs/cooler stuff like that bulky but not to heavy of items.

Man I don't see one important thing that should always be in a off road XJ.....a Coffee Can a must have to hold the TP in so it doesn't crushed and dirty.
