Default Sources for ECU

Help, I am on my third Cherokee (1 1999 and two 2000) and I need an Engine Control unit. Does anyone have a reliable source that can ship one pre-programmed. I can't take out a second mortgage to get it from the dealer.
Thanks !!

That'll be your least expensive route.

This link went around the forum a little while back. Still works.

Can you expound on this, please? How do I go about putting a JY computer in my ride and make it work? Thanks.

I think he's saying the ECU will have a P/N on it. If you followed the Ebay link, you'll see that one ECU fits a wide range of XJ's. Just make sure you get one with the correct P/N and from there it should be plug and play.

part number should be in the form "P56041 635AF" The last two letters can be different on the new ECU than on yours since they represent the software revision, but the numbers need to be the same ***NOTE THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE ECU P# FROM THE PICTURE BELOW***

Default Still Missing ?

OK folks, this one gets tougher....
First, my 2000 cherokee developed an engine misfire overnight, running perfect, next morning, engine miss with light on. The miss comes and goes at will without any predictability.
I went to the dealer for diagnosis, they said engine computer, 750 bucks !
Thanks to you guys on the Cherokee forum, I found a rebuilt with a one year warranty at a great price, the only thing is the problem didn't go away.
One to dealer number two. He said it was some distributor cam mechanism.
Since I wasn't sure how to mess with it myself I let them do it, 500 bucks.
Then got the phone call, we are sorry to inform you it didn't fix the problem but the part really was bad and you needed anyway. The new diagnosis was the engine harness. Needless to say I grabbed my keys and left.
I am open to any suggestions. This is my third Cherokee, love them and hate to through in the towel but I need it daily for work, I travel a lot. Thanks to everyone who replies !

go to an auto parts store and get the computer codes read. They do it for free. Then post the actual number codes on here so we can help. They will be in the form p0151, p1123, etc.

This will tell us a great deal more about what could be causing the problem.

Also post exactly what the dealership replaced - it should be listed on your service receipt.
