Default Sound like a problem or am I just freaking out?

So after all my cooling issues I had this weekend and replacing my thermostat, coolant temp sensor, new electric fan and mechanical fan shroud my XJ consistently rus at 210F. I installed a 195 degree thermostat just in case that info is needed.

What worries me is that even though my temp doesn't exceed 210 it climes rather quickly. (maybe 10 minutes from a cold start with an outside temp of 60F)

Another thing I have heard lately is that there is a very slight ticking in the lower end of the engine bay. It becomes faster as the RPM's rise but its not loud. I can't tell if its exhaust related or not but I did check my oil today and its at the add line but is clean and not milky whatsoever. Does smell a little like gas however, but I think I'm just running rich due to a code P0138 for a faulty O2 Sensor.

Share your wisdom with me Gents, I've thrown over $5000 into this jeep in a month, a messed up motor is the last thing I need.

The quicker the operating temp is reached, the better. The 4.0L is not the quietest motor out there. Stay up with maintenance and maybe check closer for an exhaust leak.

running rich will cause extra fuel to be squirted into combustion chambers which in turn will get in to crank case thining oil does your oil smell like theres fuel in it?

Is it a ticking or a kind of low sounding klok-klok until the engine warms up?

What brand of oil filter is on the Jeep?

I know what you mean. I have the same thing that sounds like valve cover gasket leak tick kind of sound. I replaced the gasket, all nice and tight, checked my plugs for tightness, exhaust flange..it is coming from the pass side of the engine bay. On start up it is quiet, when it gets up to temp that's when it ticks. Maybe its the Orange Can of Death FRAM filter that I currently have which I will be changing to a WIX filter this coming weekend.

Excellent idea. Get rid of the OCOD.

I think your temp behavior is OK, but I would change that engine oil and filter right away with quality stuff.

Give it several hundred miles and do the smell test again.

Its more of a tick, mind you its not loud but it still scares the hell out of me. The tick rises with the rpm's and vice versa. I also hear a tick when I turn the truck off, like it's the crank or something slowing down and than stops. IDK... I'm an electrician not a mechanic...

I think there is just a regular purolator white oil filter on her as of now.

I bought some high mileage penzoil 10w-40, a bottle of lucas and got a purolator gold filter...

hope that does the trick.
